Bihar Homestay Protsahan Yojana About :-
The ‘Chief Minister Homestay Promotion Scheme,’ recently launched by the Bihar government, is a significant initiative aimed at boosting tourism and employment. Its primary objective is to promote rural tourism—specifically by encouraging visitors to explore villages—and to provide local residents with self-employment opportunities. Under this scheme, residents of Bihar can develop their spare rooms into homestays, thereby offering suitable accommodation to visiting tourists.
Beneficiaries are provided a subsidy of ₹2.5 lakh per room for building or improving a homestay, up to a maximum of 4 rooms, or up to ₹10 lakh. Additional incentives are provided to women, self-help groups (SHGs), and youth aged 18–25, bringing the total assistance to ₹11 lakh. The aim is to promote Bihar’s cultural heritage, local traditions, and tourist destinations, providing a “home-grown experience” for tourists, while also fostering economic development in rural areas. The scheme encourages community-based tourism.
Bihar Homestay Protsahan Yojana Eligibility Criteria :-
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Bihar state.
- The minimum age requirement is 18 years.
- Ownership of valid land or a house is mandatory.
- The land or property must not be involved in any legal dispute.
- The homestay must be located within the designated radius (approximately 5 km) of a tourist destination.
- A maximum of 8 rooms can be operated.
- Applications can be submitted for starting a new homestay, converting an existing house into a homestay, or upgrading an already operational homestay.
- Government employees, contractual workers, or Central/State government staff are not eligible for this scheme.

Assistance per room: –
A capital subsidy of ₹2.50 lakh per room has been fixed for upgrading homestays (up to a maximum of ₹10 lakh for the renovation of 4 rooms).
Special concession for youth and women: –
If the homestay is operated by a woman entrepreneur, a Self-Help Group (SHG), or a youth aged 18 to 25 years, an additional incentive (bonus) of ₹25,000 per room will be provided.
